The Folger Shakespeare Theatre will be celebrating everything Hamlet this spring…and “Maidens” is included! Join us (for free) at the Folger May 21st at 6:30 pm, where I’ll be reading from and discussing the book before a performance of the play. There are several other Hamfest events, including a discussion of the film Discovering Hamlet with Sir Derek Jacobi and Richard Clifford. Here’s more from the Washington Post.

Thank you all so much for entering the holiday giveaway and contest. Winners are after the jump.

It was great to see what people came up with. I can’t believe how many holiday “classics” I hadn’t even considered: “The Gift of the Magi,” “Home Alone,” the “regifting” episode of Seinfeld. Not to mention all of the Facebook conventions you managed to work in: we had a lost Grinch wandering onto your farm in Whoville, a Nutcracker getting promoted to Level 90 in Mouse Wars, and a Mouse not attending the event “The Night Before Christmas.”

So here are the winners! I’ve listed whatever name I’ve been given and where the entry was found (this website, Twitter or the Facebook fan page). Remember, we had 10 signed books in the giveaway and then three entries that received top honors. I’ll be e-mailing/messaging all of the winners shortly to find out the best way to get your books to you. For the gift cards, I have to say it was so hard to narrow it down to three! As you can see from the entries on this site alone, there were many, many great ones.

I couldn’t resist this one…giving the ‘Ophelia’/'Facebook Lit’ treatment to good ol’ Dan Brown on The Huffington Post. Many other bestselling authors included. As always, I don’t know how some things here happened…like Joyce Carol Oates being overt with emoticons. Perhaps I was inhabited by a mysterious spirit of the ancients?
