About Maidens Who Don’t Float

Maidens Who Don’t Float is a site, born of a book, born of a McSweeney’s humor piece. Therefore, it should retain the oddness and signature stick-out ears of its forbears while bringing something new to the table, perhaps a birthmark shaped like Bolivia or a husky, bark-like laugh.

We’ll do our best to bring you more humor–intentional and otherwise–and keep tabs on things like literary parodies, confusing news items, inanimate objects dressed up to look like other inanimate objects…you know, the stuff that makes the world go round. Please contact the author of this site, Sarah Schmelling, with your questions and suggestions.

sarah_4x62Sarah Schmelling has written about entertainment, travel and pop culture for The Washington Post, Spin, Slate, Paste, Salon, Newsweek, Real Simple, the Los Angeles Times, McSweeney’s, Variety, World Hum, The Huffington Post and many other publications. She lives outside of Washington, DC, with her husband and sons.
